Geology instructor Alex Cave receives an urgent message about an unusual geologic event in Iceland, which created a huge spiral tunnel straight down into a dormant volcano. What he discovers at the bottom is an alien artifact more powerful than a nuclear weapon.

Janice Sloan steals the alien device and takes it deep into the Nevada desert. When she turns it on, birds start slamming into the ground around her, but for some reason she can’t turn it off so she removes the key and abandons the device in the desert. It begins dragging satellites from orbit and threatens to bring down the International Space Station. When it changes the orbit of the moon, the extreme tidal affect could rip the planet apart.
