Rock Gods Don't Date Pop Princesses (Break the Rules Book 1)

by Tabatha Kiss

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Tabatha Kiss comes a hilarious new fake relationship/second chance/lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers rockstar romance that begs the question: Can a rock god date a pop princess?

No. Absolutely not.

I’m Knox Benton, lead singer of Criminal Records, the hottest rock band in the nation. What I say goes and I say that rock gods
don’t date pop princesses.

Unfortunately, our record label disagrees.

They want to pair me up with a fake girlfriend on our upcoming tour. Just a teeny tiny publicity stunt to keep the cameras flashing on Criminal Records while highlighting their new sizzling-hot rising popstar.

It’d be an interesting ruse… if I didn’t break into a cold sweat at the mention of her name.

Hey, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to keep Criminal Records at number one.
Except her.
Please, anyone but
 her.

Harmony Max.
My ex-girlfriend.
My former muse.

She always wanted to be a star. Now’s her chance and she’ll do anything to take her rightful place in the spotlight. Even putting our torrential past behind us and calling a truce in the name of mutually beneficial stardom.

But if we’re doing this, we need to lay some ground rules.
No unnecessary touching.
No shared hotel rooms.
We don’t even speak to each other unless there’s a camera nearby.

And most of all… we don’t fall in love.

We broke every rule before, along with each other’s hearts. I’m not eager to do that again, but there’s only so many fake kisses one can give before they start to feel a little too real.

Can we rewrite our love song? Or are we doomed to repeat the same heartbreaking track ever after?

Rock Gods Don’t Date Pop Princesses is the first sizzling-hot and spicy book in a brand-new series, Break the Rules! Dive into the decadent world of rock 'n' roll where the ultimate rock god faces off against the pop princess who once set his heart on fire. Sparks fly, egos clash, and passions rekindle in a truly outrageous tale of fame, forbidden desires, and a love that refuses to follow the rules.

Emily Lloyd, a young widow in Reconstruction-era Virginia, is accused of poisoning her three-year-old daughter, Maud. It isn’t the first death in her home—her husband and three other children all died of mysterious illnesses—so when Maud succumbs to an unexplained malady, the town suspects foul play. Soon Mrs. Lloyd is charged not only with poisoning the child but also with murdering her children, her husband, and her aunt.

Enter Powell Harrison, a soft-spoken, brilliant attorney who recently returned to his Virginia hometown to help his brother manage their late father’s practice. Approached to assist in Mrs. Lloyd’s defense, Harrison initially declines, worried that an infanticide case might tarnish their family’s reputation. But as details about the widow’s erratic behavior and her reclusive neighbors emerge, Harrison begins to suspect that an even more sinister truth might lurk beneath the family’s horrible fate and finds himself irresistibly drawn to the case.

Emotional Beauty and the Limits of Human Intelligence

by Thomas Atwood

This book is about

  • Our kinship with animals.
  • What it means to be intelligent.
  • The difference between subjective and objective reality.
  • The battle between the rational mind and the emotional mind for control of your behavior.
  • Becoming more self-aware.
  • The fundamental importance of the pursuit of knowledge.
  • The need for better leadership and ways to find it.
  • The advantages and dangers of machine intelligence.
  • How to become a better you, a better us.

Human intelligence is all we need to be able to cure cancer, colonize Mars and establish peace and prosperity for all. But what happens when it feels better to behave impulsively, emotionally instead of using our smarts? Finding the motivation to cure cancer is hard for someone specializing in partying, watching sports or playing video games.

Animal behavior is largely guided by emotion. We inherited our emotional foundation from our distant evolutionary ancestors. But our more recent ancestors developed a brave new means of controlling our behavior—a high level of intelligence. So now we have two separate sources of behavioral control?
If your behavior is like a car being operated by two different drivers, what are the odds it won’t end up in a ditch? If this situation isn’t bad enough, we’re having so many little problems – like making correct change or forgetting to set the alarm – that we are busily inventing artificial intelligence to do our thinking for us.

Emotional Beauty and the Limits of Human Intelligence explores the behavior of animals and people by contrasting wants versus needs. Sometimes our emotional desires strengthen our efforts by reinforcing what we know we should be doing. But often (more often?) we respond to desire even when it conflicts with what we know we ought to do, like eating those dangerous donuts, downing too many light beers, or putting urgent tasks off till later. And then there are the really dangerous things like driving while intoxicated, committing theft, rape, murder, starting a war or cheating on your income taxes.

So here we are, relying on our occasionally useful intelligence to prevent nuclear wars, snuff out deadly pandemics, and forestall potentially catastrophic climate change. With serious problems like these, isn't it about time we took a close look at whether humans are really up to these tasks? In
Emotional Beauty and the Limits of Human Intelligence, Dr.Thomas Atwood takes a fresh new look why you feel the way you do and do the things you do, and what you and all the rest of us ought to do about it.

For a fresh new way of looking at what you already know about animals, about people, about yourself,

Assassin: A Novel (Alexander Hawke Book 2)

by Ted Bell

In this explosive, jaw-tightening thriller, and second in the bestselling Alex Hawke series
, fearless intelligence operative Lord Alexander Hawke matches wits with a cunning and bloodthirsty psychopath in a desperate race to avert an American Armageddon.

A shadowy figure known as the Dog is believed to be the ruthless terrorist who is systematically and savagely assassinating American diplomats and their families around the globe. As the deadly toll mounts inexorably, Alex Hawke, along with former NYPD cop and Navy SEAL Stokely Jones, is called upon by the U.S. government to launch a search for the assassin behind the murders.

Hawke, who makes James Bond look like a "slovenly, dull-witted clockpuncher" (
Kirkus Reviews), is soon following a trail that leads back to London in the go-go nineties, when Arab oil money fueled lavish, and sometimes fiendish, lifestyles. Other murky clues point to the Florida Keys, where a vicious killer hides behind the gates of a fabled museum. And to a remote Indonesian island where a madman tinkers with strains of a deadly virus and slyly bides his time.

Hawke must call upon resources deep within himself and race against time to stop a cataclysmic attack on America's most populous cities and avenge the inexplicable and horrific crime that has left him devastated.

Brimming with relentless action and stylish detail, and featuring a hero that readers will stand up and cheer for,
Assassin is a gripping adventure. And definitely not recommended for the faint of heart.

A Different World: God's Sovereignty In The Face Of Suffering

by David Libby

If there is a God who is both good and all-powerful, then how can this be happening?

In his work "Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion", the eighteenth century Scottish philosopher, David Hume, argued against the teleological argument for the existence of God, by pointing out that a perfect God (a God who does not make mistakes) would never have created a world so full of mistakes as this one is. The nineteenth century German philosopher, Ernst Haeckel, coined a brand-new name for this argument; he called it the "dysteleological argument". It presents a good question: how could an all-powerful and benevolent God have created a world like this one, where suffering is ubiquitous?

There is no shortage of inadequate answers to this question, often presented by people who have suffered very little. There are sound answers to be found, resting on the solid foundation of God's revelation, but they are not easy answers. It is that plot of stony ground that this little book seeks to plow. None of the answers in this book are novel, nevertheless, they are seldom heard today within the halls (or more likely, the cafes) of popular Christianity.

Not only do Hume's and Haeckel's salvos fall short of their target, but they also leave their proponents hopelessly adrift in a fog-bound sea of nihilism. In an atheistic world, suffering has no ultimate purpose, but this is not a nihilistic world. In the arms of a loving and sovereign God, even our darkest hours are redeemed for good, and it is here where I earnestly hope the reader will find himself.

In this book, you will learn:

That human suffering is not a mistake, but is consistent with the revealed will of God.

That the reality of human and satanic evil is not inconsistent with the goodness and sovereignty of God.

That God is glorified, and his people refined, through suffering.

That, without a sovereign God, our suffering would have no purpose, but that, in the sovereign plan of God it is infinitely purposeful.

That it is only in submission to the true God, through faith in Jesus Christ, that this infinite purpose can be realized.

This is a must-read for anyone who wants to embark on a spiritual journey. Within the pages of this book you will find the true meaning of faith and discover more about Christian living. To learn more, get a copy now!

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches) epic fantasy appeals to fans of Samantha Shannon’s The Priory of the Orange Tree and the adult animated series Castlevania.

Remy Pendergast is many things: the only son of the Duke of Valenbonne (though his father might wish otherwise), an elite bounty hunter of rogue vampires, and an outcast among his fellow Reapers. His mother was the subject of gossip even before she eloped with a vampire, giving rise to the rumors that Remy is half-vampire himself. Though the kingdom of Aluria barely tolerates him, Remy’s father has been shaping him into a weapon to fight for the kingdom at any cost.

When a terrifying new breed of vampire is sighted outside of the city, Remy prepares to investigate alone. But then he encounters the shockingly warmhearted vampire heiress Xiaodan Song and her infuriatingly arrogant fiancé, vampire lord Zidan Malekh, who may hold the key to defeating the creatures—though he knows associating with them won’t do his reputation any favors. When he’s offered a spot alongside them to find the truth about the mutating virus Rot that’s plaguing the kingdom, Remy faces a choice.

It’s one he’s certain he’ll regret.

But as the three face dangerous hardships during their journey, Remy develops fond and complicated feelings for the couple. He begins to question what he holds true about vampires, as well as the story behind his own family legacy. As the Rot continues to spread across the kingdom, Remy must decide where his loyalties lie: with his father and the kingdom he’s been trained all his life to defend or the vampires who might just be the death of him.
