The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State

by Nadia Murad

WINNER OF THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

In this intimate memoir of survival, a former captive of the Islamic State tells her harrowing and ultimately inspiring story.

Nadia Murad was born and raised in Kocho, a small village of farmers and shepherds in northern Iraq. A member of the Yazidi community, she and her brothers and sisters lived a quiet life. Nadia had dreams of becoming a history teacher or opening her own beauty salon.

On August 15th, 2014, when Nadia was just twenty-one years old, this life ended. Islamic State militants massacred the people of her village, executing men who refused to convert to Islam and women too old to become sex slaves. Six of Nadia’s brothers were killed, and her mother soon after, their bodies swept into mass graves. Nadia was taken to Mosul and forced, along with thousands of other Yazidi girls, into the ISIS slave trade.

Nadia would be held captive by several militants and repeatedly raped and beaten. Finally, she managed a narrow escape through the streets of Mosul, finding shelter in the home of a Sunni Muslim family whose eldest son risked his life to smuggle her to safety.

Today, Nadia's story—as a witness to the Islamic State's brutality, a survivor of rape, a refugee, a Yazidi—has forced the world to pay attention to an ongoing genocide. It is a call to action, a testament to the human will to survive, and a love letter to a lost country, a fragile community, and a family torn apart by war.

The Wallace Girl (The Feud Series Book 1)

by Eliot Scott et al

** 99 cents special release price - limited time only! This book will go into KU upon release. **

A feud that spans generations. A love doomed from its very beginning.

I fell in love with Alex Sinclair when we were kids. Our love was innocent and it was real. It was also dangerous.

We didn’t know our families were like oil and water, that the Wallaces and the Sinclairs hid dark secrets that involved us. We also didn't understand how deep the poison ran. When I found out the truth—when Alex forced me to leave town—I was devastated. Destroyed. But that was all part of the plan. The Sinclair lust for pain and torture at a Wallace’s expense made it impossible for me to stay…impossible to save Alex.

Mr. Sinclair is dead now, and Alex is the new heir. I’ve been waiting for this. It’s why I’ve come back. I’ve got secrets too, and if Mr. Sinclair’s gone, Alex’s heart and soul are up for grabs. He and I can end this feud. Because Alex? He’s not one of them. Never has been. He’s mine. He loves me.

I only need to remind him of that.

**The Feud Series is an adult/coming-of-age, enemies-to-lovers romance and contains mature themes not suitable for readers under 18**

The Complete Mystery Collection

by Michaela Thompson

A TRIP AROUND THE WORLD TO KILL FOR

Celebrated mystery author Michaela Thompson whisks readers away to many an exotic place—and time—with the kind of realism that stems from William Faulkner” (NYTimes) in this complete collection: featuring dazzling armchair gems that will delight both classic cozy mystery and international thriller fans.

There’s psychological terror in India circa 1972, a moonshine-laced hurricane-fueled whodunit set in quaint Eisenhower era Florida, an American journalist sleuth in France, a burgling divorcee in San Francisco, and murderous revelry at Carnival in Venice. The common thread? Every one of these puzzling murder mysteries revolves around an irresistible female sleuth—each as unique as her own fingerprints.

MAGIC MIRROR
Florida transplant Georgia Lee Maxwell doesn't take to Paris at first, despite the fact that she's at least leaving a no-good man and a hated job as a society editor. Now she's a Paris correspondent, thank you very much—a dream come true for any journalist. There's just a slight down side—she arrives in freezing rain, gets caught in a traffic jam caused by a bomb scare, and finds herself face down on a museum floor during a robbery.

A TEMPORARY GHOST
In journalist Georgia Lee Maxwell's second adventure, she leaves her new home in Paris for Provence, where she's been offered a lucrative ghost-writing job. But her co-author, suspected murderess Vivien Howard, the widow of a wealthy New York financier, seems strangely uninterested in writing her memoir Vivian was widely believed to have murdered her husband but was never charged with the crime, and now she promises to tell all.

FAULT TREE
“Placing blame” thinks Marina Robinson, “is my life’s work. And why?” There’s a lot in her past to account for—nightmares and terrors, crimes and betrayals that happened half a world away, ten years go. Now she’s an engineer with a great job. She’s a failure analyst, an investigator who figures out what causes accidents, and she’s working on her most fascinating case--the fatal crash of a roller coaster--when suddenly the phone rings…

VENETIAN MASK
The surreal splendor of Venice glitters and mesmerizes as six so-called friends who, it turns out, barely know each other meet at Carnival to play a malignant game that quickly turns murderous.

PAPER PHOENIX
First comes divorce, then comes murder…or at least sweet thoughts of murder. Maggie Longstreet has plenty of them after slimy, ambitious Richard trades her in for a more recent model. She’s so depressed she can barely get out of bed when Larry Hawkins, a seemingly not-at-all depressed acquaintance, commits suicide out of the blue. Suddenly Maggie goes on high alert, remembering something her evil ex said about Larry—something highly suspicious.

HURRICANE SEASON
The 1950s fairly leap off the page in this classic cozy mystery set in northern Florida in the Eisenhower era, complete with Johnny Ray on the jukebox and a Womanless Wedding—this one interrupted by an explosion at a moonshine still. Lily Trulock, owner of Trulock’s Grocery Marine Supply, leads a pretty quiet life until a stranger comes to town.

RIPTIDE
As intricate as a fisherman’s net, Riptide fairly writhes with sinister delights—family secrets, family feuds, lost family fortunes, betrayals, puzzles, sunken treasure… and murder, of course. With a bit of illicit romance and treachery thrown in for seasoning.

HEAT LIGHTNING
In all the years of their marriage, Clara Trent’s husband failed to mention his involvement in a murder—and now he’s not only dead himself, but accused of committing it.

Joey Mancuso Mysteries Vol 1-5 (Joey Mancuso, Father O'Brian Crime Mystery Series)

by Owen Parr

The first five volumes of the Joey Mancuso & Father O’Brian Mystery Series are now available at a killer bargain.

This rare crime mystery series has something for everyone—a tough guy, three awesome women, and a classic Golden Age gentleman-detective clergyman. The twist? The cop and the cleric are half-brothers who operate a PI firm out of their bar.

It’s a made-to-order for lovers of traditional mysteries, with the kinds of twists and scams and puzzles that warm a mystery fan’s heart like a shot of Jameson. Think Matt Scudder meets Father Brown. Also recommended for fans of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer mystery series, and, of course, the Sherlock Holmes adventures.

A MURDER ON WALL STREET

When one of Joey and Father Dom’s best customers dies in an apparent suicide —a Wall Street guy celebrating a new client the night before-- they're just not feeling it. They know he wasn’t a guy who wanted to die; and they quickly find out he was someone a lot of people wanted dead.

A MURDER ON LONG ISLAND

Just in time for Christmas, a wealthy real estate developer named Harold Longworth is on trial for the murder of his wife in the bedroom of their Long Island mansion, and the Manhattan elite are glued to their seats. Things are looking pretty grim when his team asks Joey to investigate the case, but better when he discovers that Mrs. Longworth’s personal and professional lives were a sticky web of secrets and lies, populated by a rogues' gallery of jealous lovers and corporate conspirators.

THE MANHATTAN RED RIBBON KILLER

Joey is called in to help the Midtown South precinct solve a series of brutal murders targeting young professional women. Case #1 at first seems to be an eve of kinky sex gone wrong. But when second and third bodies turn up—this time with the sign of the cross carved into their breasts—New York’s finest think they have a serial killer on their hands.

THE CASE OF THE ANTIQUITIES DEALER

From the beginning, there’s just something funny about parents who didn’t report a missing student right away, and days later still want no police. Hold it here! This is their beloved daughter, last seen leaving for a date. Why wouldn’t they want as much firepower as they can get? Because they know too much, that’s why—and Owen Parr’s clever detective senses that. Joey’s first job’s to save the girl, but no way he’s going to stop there. The scrappy PI and ex-cop’s going to get answers if it kills him.

THE MURDER OF PAOLO MANCUSO

Joey Mancuso was just a kid when he watched a stranger walk into a Little Italy bar, shoot his mobster dad in the chest, and calmly walk back out, disappearing into the Manhattan din. The murder was never solved. And the old mob adage “an eye for an eye” went unfulfilled. But now, at death’s door, infamous mobster Tony the Hammer summons Joey and utters three mysterious words: “Wetherly Stevens, Barcelona.” Joey has no doubt he’s just been told how to find his father’s killer.

Bad Teammate: A Hockey Romance (Dallas Devils Book 3)

by June Winters

Derek Reaves

I'd do anything to get my hands on hockey's holy grail.

But time's running out and I'm not getting any younger.
Luckily, the Dallas Devils have our best shot at at the Cup in years, thanks to our newest player: a Russian phenom named Niko.

As a seasoned vet, it's my job to mentor Niko—which means letting the wild rookie live with me.
But he never told me his sister, Katerina, was flying in from Russia to stay with us, too.
Hell, I never even knew he had a sister.

Thankfully, Katerina's nothing like her brother—she can actually speak English.
She's cute, too.
A man could get lost in her piercing eyes.
Or be tempted to kiss away the eternal pout on her lovely lips.
Or get caught staring when her sweater slips off her shoulder.
Ask me how I know.

Yeah, sure, Katerina's a total bombshell—but I’m a team-first kinda guy.
I know better than to score with a teammate’s sister.

And after everything this team has been through, would I really piss off our best player by taking his sister’s v-card?
Not a chance.

But our first kiss was hot enough to melt a Siberian winter.
And now I'm hooked on something I know I can't have.
If we get caught, I can kiss the Cup goodbye—
And my career with it.

But her long legs feel so damned good wrapped around my back …

Bad Teammate is a 80,000 word hockey romance. This standalone novel is the third book in the Dallas Devils series. No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA always guaranteed!

The Big Book of Serial Killers: 150 Serial Killer Files of the World's Worst Murderers

by Jack Rosewood and Rebecca Lo

There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness. These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires and monsters, and they walk among us.

These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living among society, going about their day to day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader’s, the fathers, husbands, church going members of the community.

This A-Z encyclopedia of 150 serial killers is the ideal reference book. Included are the most famous true crime serial killers, like Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and Richard Ramirez, and not to mention the women who kill, such as Aileen Wuornos and Martha Rendell. There are also lesser known serial killers, covering many countries around the world, so the range is broad.

Each of the serial killer files includes information on when and how they killed the victims, the background of each killer, or the suspects in some cases such as the Zodiac killer, their trials and punishments. For some there are chilling quotes by the killers themselves. The Big Book of Serial Killers is an easy to follow collection of information on the world’s most heinous murderers.

Bitter Blood: A True Story of Southern Family Pride, Madness, and Multiple Murder

by Jerry Bledsoe

The “riveting” #1 New York Times bestseller: A true story of three wealthy families and the unbreakable ties of blood (Kirkus Reviews).

The first bodies found were those of a feisty millionaire widow and her daughter in their posh Louisville, Kentucky, home. Months later, another wealthy widow and her prominent son and daughter-in-law were found savagely slain in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Mystified police first suspected a professional in the bizarre gangland-style killings that shattered the quiet tranquility of two well-to-do southern communities. But soon a suspicion grew that turned their focus to family.

And what about her gun-loving first cousin and lover, Fritz Klenner, son of a nationally renowned doctor?

In this tale of three families connected by marriage and murder, of obsessive love and bitter custody battles, Jerry Bledsoe recounts the shocking events that ultimately took nine lives, building to a truly horrifying climax that will leave you stunned.
