Definition of "Thriller Genre": The thriller genre is very broad and can be difficult to define.  However, the focus of a thriller ebook is typically on action, danger and suspense.  The genre can be broken into an almost infinite number of sub-genres, including action thrillers (think Clive Cussler ebooks), romance thrillers, psychological thrillers (think Psycho by Hitchcock), science fiction thrillers, and spy thrillers, just to name a few.  Common elements can include car chases, gun shoot outs, explosions, or in the case of psychological thrillers, the elements of danger can be related to the mental manipulation of characters by other characters.  It is an expansive genre, and one of the most popular at eBookHounds.

Some examples of the best thriller authors and ebooks of all time: Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code), Robert Ludlum (The Bourne Identity), Michael Crichton (The Andromeda Strain), John Grisham (Time to Kill), John D. MacDonald (Cape Fear); James Patterson (Kiss the Girls).  As you can see, ebooks in the thriller category vary widely in their substance, and the sub-genres can almost be considered genres of their own!

The President's Man: Aaron Hardy Omnibus Volume 1-3

by Alex Ander

THE PRESIDENT'S SECRET WEAPON AGAINST TERROR.

Special Forces soldier Aaron Hardy becomes embroiled in a government conspiracy. On the run, evading the FBI, and those who want him dead, his efforts to uncover the truth catch the President’s eye. And he soon realizes his life will never again be the same.

The President’s Man is an omnibus containing the first 3 novels in the Aaron Hardy Patriotic Action series (The Unsanctioned Patriot, American Influence, and Deadly Assignment) and is a good fit for fans of Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, or David Baldacci.

ACTION SNIPPET FROM THE UNSANCTIONED PATRIOT

“Well? Are you going to let me go?”

Hardy relaxed his grip and backed away from her, half-expecting her to mount another assault.

She lowered her arms and straightened her blazer. Maintaining eye contact, she moved to where her gun was lying on the floor.

Hardy flicked his eyes toward the weapon. Moment of truth.

She picked up the weapon and racked the slide to eject the empty case and chamber a new round. She paused to eyeball the man who had taken the Glock from her.

Staring at her, Hardy tipped his head to one side. What’s it going to be, Agent DelaCruz?

After a few seconds, she holstered the weapon.

Inwardly, he breathed a sigh of relief.

Cruz pointed at the dead man. “Now, tell me what happened here.”

Hardy brushed by her and hurried into the hallway. “Let’s go.”

“I’m not going anywhere until you give me some answers.” She followed him down the hall. “Why did Colonel Ludlum shoot himself? What happened in that SUV? Who are you? What—”

“When we get out of here,” Hardy confronted her, “I’ll tell you whatever you want to know. But right now, we really need to—”

A red dot appeared on her groin and moved to her chest.

Charging forward, he tackled her, and they landed behind a leather sofa, Cruz on her back, Hardy on top of her.

“What the—” she pushed on his chest, “get off m—”

The wall behind the sofa disintegrated, sending pieces of wallboard, wood, and dust toward them.

Hardy covered her with his upper body, trapping her hands between their bellies.

Another round of incoming fire strafed the wall.

The couple turned away from the flying debris.

His cheek pressed against hers, he breathed in her scent, his mind probing for the name of her perfume. I’ve smelled that before. I’ll bet it’s—

The gunfire ceased.

Hardy rose to a kneeling position. Straddling Cruz, he twisted his upper body, brought his gun to bear, and fired several rounds toward the front door.

Cruz wiggled out from under him, drew her pistol, and prepared to return fire.

Hardy yanked on her arm and pulled her from behind the sofa. “Follow me.” Coming to the laundry room, “Damn it,” he pointed his weapon. “We’re trapped.”

Cruz followed the SIG’s muzzle and saw three men, dressed in black tactical clothing and carrying MP5 rifles, exiting the woods. “What now?”

Bullets hit the wall opposite her.

She stuck her gun out and fired three rounds at their assailants.

After opening the door that led to the garage, Hardy gestured toward the men at the front door. “Keep them busy. I’m going to circle around from behind.”

Unfortunately, she hasn't even unpacked a suitcase before her newly inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard.

Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she's not careful, this investigation might blow her cover and get her killed. Nothing As It Seems (Billy Jo McCabe Mystery Book 1)

by Lorhainne Eckhart

From NY Times & USA Today bestselling author Lorhainne Eckhart comes the first book in the thrilling Billy-Jo McCabe series, which unites two characters from The Friessens and The McCabe Brothers.

Billy-Jo McCabe never expected to become a social worker, considering the broken system nearly destroyed her. Shortly after she takes a job on a remote Pacific Northwest island, she gets a call about an adolescent girl who’s gone missing from a wilderness camp, and questions arise about the marks and bruises seen on the young girl’s body before she disappeared.

Roche Harbor detective Mark Friessen is called in to investigate the disappearance, but instead of working with the newly appointed social worker, he ends up butting heads and clashing with her every step of the way. Billy-Jo becomes the rival he does his best to avoid, considering the only conversations they have involve her pointing out his shortcomings and arrogance, telling him exactly where he can go.

But when Billy-Jo finds herself in over her head, she’s forced to team up with the man she tells herself is her polar opposite, someone she could never be attracted to, as he has the uncanny ability to bring out the worst in her.

The only thing Billy-Jo wants is to find the missing girl and see that she gets the kind of help she herself never got before being tossed in the system—before her father, Chase McCabe, saved her. So, swallowing her pride, she unwillingly forms a truce with Mark, and together, they come up against close-mouthed locals, island secrets that hit too close to home, and the realization that their case about finding and helping a young girl has turned into something far more sinister.

The Billy-Jo McCabe Series

The social worker and the cop, an unlikely couple drawn together on a small, secluded Pacific Northwest island where nothing is as it seems. Protecting the innocent comes at a cost, and what seems to be a sleepy, quiet town is anything but.

Point Roberts

by Alexander Rigby

Five strangers forge an unlikely alliance to uncover the identity of the infamous Point Roberts Slayer.

On a peculiar peninsula in Washington State, the small town of Point Roberts exists in the shadow of the fifteen people who were murdered here. Surrounded by water and a giant wall that spans its border with Canada, Point Roberts has been cut off from the rest of the world every February for the past twenty-seven years in an attempt to stop a brutal serial killer from striking again. Because the murders took place exclusively during February three years in a row, closing down the town seemed like the only way to stop the slayings. And so far . . . it has worked.

Except the decades-old cold case remains unsolved, and the residents of Point Roberts are beginning to question if there’s an ulterior motive behind the mayor’s enforced lockdowns. After a brazen seventeen-year-old orphan named Liza moves to town, a new February begins. At first, she knows nothing of the murders, but that quickly changes when she finds a mysterious book titled The Fifteen—a book that shares shocking details on the killings.

Determined to discover the identity of the Point Roberts Slayer, Liza teams up with four other misfits who all hold secrets and have personal connections to the victims. These five strangers will have to work together to uncover the truth, if only they can stay out of the murderer’s destructive path so they don’t become victims themselves.

Point Roberts is a love letter to the moody Pacific Northwest, an intricate portrait of complex characters building walls to protect their fragile hearts, and, at its core, a profound story of embracing chosen family and walking with them into the foggy unknown.
