Definition of the "Science Fiction Genre": The focus of this subgenre of fiction is science and technology, especially as they will possibly exist in a future time. Some of the typical aspects of a Science Fiction ebook are time travel, future worlds with technology that may not even be contemplated at this point, aliens and other life forms, and travelling in space. What separates the Science Fiction subgenre from the Fantasy subgenre of fiction is that the imagined or invented elements of a Science Fiction novel typically have more of a probability of existing. They are based upon scientific principles, not principles of magic.
Some examples of bestselling ebooks in the Science Fiction genre are Frank Herbert (Dune), Isaac Asimov (Foundation), Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game) and George Orwell (1984).
The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion by Margaret Killjoy pits utopian anarchists against rogue demon deer in this dropkick-in-the-mouth punk fantasy that Alan Moore calls "scary and energetic."

She and her new friends have to act fast if they’re going to save the town — or get out alive.

Discover the history of Haden's Syndrome, the virus that created the world of John Scalzi's inventive near-future thrillers Lock In and Head On, in the prequel novella Unlocked.
Not long from now, a virus will sweep the globe. Most will suffer no worse than flu-like symptoms, but an unlucky one percent will be changed forever. Hundreds of millions become "locked in", awake, aware, but completely unable to control their bodies.
This is the story of the doctors, scientists, engineers, politicians, and heroes who remade the world. It is the story of the chaotic outbreak, the fight for a cure, the changes that followed. It is an oral history, straight from the mouths of those who survived the most dynamic period in human history.

A blazingly inventive near-future thriller from the best-selling, Hugo Award-winning John Scalzi.
Not too long from today, a new, highly contagious virus makes its way across the globe. Most who get sick experience nothing worse than flu, fever and headaches. But for the unlucky one percent - and nearly five million souls in the United States alone - the disease causes "Lock In": Victims fully awake and aware, but unable to move or respond to stimulus. The disease affects young, old, rich, poor, people of every color and creed. The world changes to meet the challenge.
A quarter of a century later, in a world shaped by what's now known as "Haden's syndrome," rookie FBI agent Chris Shane is paired with veteran agent Leslie Vann. The two of them are assigned what appears to be a Haden-related murder at the Watergate Hotel, with a suspect who is an "integrator" - someone who can let the locked in borrow their bodies for a time. If the Integrator was carrying a Haden client, then naming the suspect for the murder becomes that much more complicated.
But "complicated" doesn't begin to describe it. As Shane and Vann began to unravel the threads of the murder, it becomes clear that the real mystery - and the real crime - is bigger than anyone could have imagined. The world of the locked in is changing, and with the change comes opportunities that the ambitious will seize at any cost. The investigation that began as a murder case takes Shane and Vann from the halls of corporate power to the virtual spaces of the locked in, and to the very heart of an emerging, surprising new human culture. It's nothing you could have expected.

Caleb Swift knows he’s a complicated guy. He sees the unseeable: winged beings that haunt both his dreams and his waking visions. He knows the unknowable: horrifying visions of countless unspeakable futures he feels powerless to prevent. And if that weren’t bad enough, these potent revelations might be driving him insane.
Who needs that kind of trouble?
Not Caleb. He’s doing his best to live a totally uncomplicated life, to ignore the visions of doom that hound him relentlessly. But no matter what he does, one particular vision still plagues him. The one with the girl. The girl who’s in mortal danger (or will be soon). The girl only he can save.
Now Caleb has a choice. To ignore his gift, to live the ordinary life he so desperately desires, even if it means letting her die…
Or to act. To interfere. To become extraordinary. And let one girl’s future turn his present completely upside-down.

Pillage and plunder is what air pirates do, but for Albion Clemens, that will have to wait. The Manchu Marauder needs to find his American stepfather, Captain Samuel, lost to the wayward winds of a Steam Age Europe.
Unfortunately, Captain Samuel has stolen the Laputian Leviathan, a powerful pirate artifact that's got agents of Queen and calamity sniffing at his coattails. The skies are a-twitter with rumors of some nefarious theft: someone is ripping up and stealing national landmarks, leaving the aerial navies of Europe helpless. It's an idea so ludicrous it has to be true. What's Captain Sam got to do with it? And why does the Darjeeling only taste good in Auntie's galley?
With the aid of a buxom detective Inspector, a seditionist British journalist, and a knife-happy helmswoman, can Albion get to his pa before their high-flying pirate life is transformed into a Future that Never Was?

A third Victoria has ascended the throne of a steam-driven country where enormous clockwork giants walk the streets and airships carry news of the Ottoman threat in the East.
In the wake of a calamity that engulfed all of Europe, Inspector Vanessa Hargreaves of Scotland Yard is given the dubious task of policing steamcraft crime. Along with flamboyant detective Arturo C. Adler, she stumbles upon a conspiracy to use a horrific plague in an effort to prevent war.
But even as dastardly forces converge upon her, our high-heeled detective struggles with her devotion to Queen and Country, and the shadows under the Union Flag grow ever deeper.
Can she put a stop to this new disaster before her country is devoured by a Spectre of War?

OF STATIONS INFERNAL (Book 3)

Her investigation stymied by monstrous horrors, the Inspector continues to carry the deadly Cook plague away from villains unknown. The American heartland is rife with strange, wondrous, dangerous oddities of its own, challenging her convictions and her very service to her Queen. Loyalties and regrets will become the least of her worries as titanic forces are mustering, from ghost trains to air pirates, to bring her great American adventure to an untimely end

The ninth book in the bestselling British madcap time-travelling series, served with a dash of wit that seems to be everyone’s cup of tea.
Behind the seemingly innocuous facade of St. Mary’s Institute of Historical Research, a different kind of academic work is taking place. Just don’t call it “time travel”?these historians “investigate major historical events in contemporary time.” And they aren’t your harmless eccentrics either; a more accurate description, as they ricochet around history, might be unintentional disaster-magnets.
From Tudor England to the burning city of Persepolis, from a medieval St. Mary’s under siege to Victorian Rushford and a very nasty case of gaol fever, Max is struggling to keep her private life intact. There’s an ambitious programme hindered by giant teapots, plus Mrs. Midgely’s objection to dead hamsters in her airing cupboard, and Mr. Markham’s stubborn refusal to reveal his exact marital status.
And as if that’s not enough?the unfortunately not leprosy-laden Malcolm Halcombe is back. Admittedly, none of this is the most secure platform from which to launch an initiative to bring down the renegade Clive Ronan, but hey?what’s the worst that could happen?
Ynya Oblique finds her parents slaughtered, her village razed, and her sisters kidnapped by the tyrant Frost Queen of the North. After burying her parents, Ynya vows vengeance on those that have wronged her, and promises to find her sisters.
Her bright red hair and the magic that burns within her makes her an obvious target for roaming patrols, but Ynya has a few fiery tricks up her sleeve. Naturally playful and incredibly hot headed, keeping a low profile does not come naturally to her. But she will do anything to find her sister.
But no one can get under her skin quite like her older sister. Despite their differences, the two must learn to work together to find safety in an unforgiving world.
Igniting Vengeance is the exciting first entry in the Frost Fervor Concordance. This Dark Young-to-New Adult Fantasy story is chock full of adventure, action, and righteous fury.

THE CRUELEST WORDS IN ANY LANGUAGE: “YOUR KIND.”
An exotic, futuristic epic fantasy, the Rise of the Iliri series captures a world at its most bleak—and most hopeful: a nation of terrorists called the Terrans, under the thumb of an evil Emperor, sets out to systematically destroy every race but their own. And they’re just about to succeed. Author Auryn Hadley cleverly blends adventure amidst brutal war with the age-old human struggle between good and evil, hatred and love—all through the lens of a powerful and intriguing female lead, the likes of which the fantasy genre hasn’t yet seen.
On a world named Ogun, where humans define “our kind” and “their kind,” Private Salryc Luxx is iliri, a member of "their kind" bred by humans thousands of years ago for protection. In an unfortunate twist of fate, the iliri also happen to be a dangerous predator. Enslaved until being conscripted into the army at eighteen after biting a military officer on the shoulder, Sal’s one and only goal is to fight her way into the Black Blades, an elite special operations unit within the army of the Conglomerate of Free Citizens. To be feared as a Black Blade is as close to freedom as an iliran can get.
And her appearance—the milky-white skin, long white hair, pale inhuman eyes, and expressive ears on the top of her head—ensures that she will never be mistaken for anything but the rarest of her kind, a pure iliri female. It comes with powers no man can resist, even if it means his death... Humans treat her like a freak, but iliri instantly recognize the perfection of exactly what she was designed to be: an unequaled killing machine. Able to see in the dark, with acute hearing and a sense of smell sensitive enough to read emotions, the iliri are smaller but more powerful than humans, the females quicker than the males and, therefore, deadlier.
But Sal has no idea what she is. She was raised solely among humans, with no exposure to her own kind or their traditions. Everything she thinks she knows about herself came to her through the eyes of humans—who care for nothing but their own kind. Acceptance into the Blades has given her the family she’s never had, not to mention access to a devoted line of potential mates. And with it, the protection of seven of the fiercest warriors in existence. After only a few months of training, she surpasses their skills and becomes the most lethal member of the unit. It will take much longer for them to teach her who she is: their destiny.
Each of the Black Blades will die to protect her. Some of them will submit to the bloodlust that overtakes her in battle and can be quenched only by roughly passionate mating. Eventually, all of them will submit to her command. They are her pack. Soon the world will learn what she now knows, that the Black Blades, the best of the elites, are all iliri.
Author Hadley has crafted a multi-layered fantasy series—and a fascinating new world. Her heroine, Sal, is as loving as she is fierce, and the demons she battles—and the way she beats them—underlie a deeper earthly truth. Hadley’s clever takes on racial prejudice are subtle, yet damning--and her idea of sexual politics is a rip-roaring turn-on. Every female reader will want to be Sal…and every male, like the guys in the book, will fall for her.
Did we mention the erotic scenes are hot? Steamy!
This is the first book in an action-packed, epic, science-based fantasy series that fans of Avatar and Game of Thrones will love; not to mention The Dragonriders of Pern. BloodLust does not end with a cliffhanger. It does contain adult themes, thus may not be suitable for younger readers.
