Religious and Inspirational

Some of the most beautiful and moving things in this world are words. There are authors who have either experienced circumstances that they then relay to us and move us, or who have seen others experience such things.  These types of ebooks can have a tremendously meaningful impact on our lives, so much so that some ebooks in this category can even change the course of our life and those around us.  Imagine getting all of that value for free or for a discount.  That's what eBookHounds brings you.

Definition of the "Religious and Inspirational Genre": Ebooks in the Religious and Inspirational genre are meant to capture real stories of people who have seen true, seemingly insurmountable struggle and persevered through that.  The ebooks do not have to be religious to be inspirational, but there oftentimes is included an aspect of spirituality that helped the main character overcome his or her challenge.  And, the challenge is oftentimes tied to change.  When a reader sees that the main character of one of these ebooks can change, or is forced to change due to circumstances, that can spill over into the reader's own life.

Some examples of bestselling ebooks in the Religious and Inspirational Genre are Jack Canfield et al (Chicken Soup for the Soul), Yann Martel (Life of Pi), Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist), and Viktor Frankl (Man's Search for Meaning).

Little Black Sheep: A Memoir

by Ashley Cleveland

“This is the story of the groundwork that paved the way to my faith. It is not an easy story to tell….”

This powerful memoir from Grammy Award winner Ashley Cleveland reminds us that even in the lowest times of our lives, beauty can shine through.

As a young woman from a deeply flawed family, Ashley had little hope she would amount to anything. If there was trouble, near or far, she found it. Yet, in her destructive days of drugs, alcohol, and sex, she encountered a forgiving God who was relentlessly faithful.

Change did not come quickly. The brokenness did not disappear. But little by little, Ashley allowed God to heal her, to transform her desires, to bring courage to others through her journey. Little by little, she saw that it was her brokenness itself that God wanted to use.

This beautifully told story will take you from the back rooms of Nashville to the churches of the San Francisco Bay area to a tender new life where one woman discovers that God can work in broken places.

The Lost Art of Practicing His Presence

by James W. Goll

The presence of God is meant to be more than just an occasional event during Sunday morning Worship---you are meant to live in God's presence! In The Lost Art of Practicing His Presence, James W. Goll uncovers ancient and nearly forgotten keys to deeper intimacy with Christ Jesus while revealing the ease of working with Christ instead of for Him.

Through this book you will rediscover the lost precepts of Biblical meditation, contemplative prayer, and waiting on the Lord and learn how to apply them in your own life. Most importantly, you will gain inspiration for your own intimate walk and the courage to spread the fire His presence to everyone around you!

The Lost Art of Practicing His Presence also includes a modern-language translation of The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. An inspiration to James Goll, this 15th-century believer has inspired generations of Christians with his simple life and profound writings on the nature and presence of the Lord.

Covenant Baptism: Born of Spirit, Born of Water - What it Means to be Born Again

by Richard Yarbrough

The church, the body of Christ is on the cusp of greater things in Him. We are moving into the gospel of the Kingdom, better covenant theology, and supernatural lifestyle. Renowned Pastors, Teachers, and Apostles are preaching and writing dozens of books, posting videos and starting schools to birth the supernatural lifestyle as normal Christianity. In all of this preaching, and in books and videos, I find one thing missing. How do we enter into the Kingdom of God, right now, on this earth? How do we enter into the new covenant relationship with the Lord to manifest these glorious new lifestyles? Covenant Baptism has the answers to propel the body of Christ into these truths. God has commissioned us, His body, to make the earth as it is in heaven. We bring are to the Kingdom of Heaven to the earth. The Lord has given us the tools needed to do so.
Our Lord Jesus gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom. On the day of Pentecost Peter reveled these keys and three thousand were saved. It was the birth of the church. Within a few hundred years understanding of the keys were lost. Martin Luther found understanding of the first key; repentance, and thereby the Protestant movement was birthed. In the 1900’s, by the Welch revival and Azusa Street, the Holy Spirit brought understanding of another key, receiving the Holy Spirit. The Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements were born. Now Covenant Baptism brings fuller understanding of the third Key, the doctrine of baptisms. This is key to the birth of the Kingdom Movement and new and better covenant theology.
In Covenant Baptism you will find answers to:

• Is water baptism only a ritual show of the work Jesus already did in one at salvation?
• Is water baptism required for salvation? Hint, no. However, is it required for greater things?
• Jesus said that we cannot enter into, or even perceive the Kingdom of God, unless we are born of the water and the Spirit. What did He mean by that?
• What does it mean to be truly Born Again?
• What is required to become a partaker of the new covenant? Is there a separate act, similar to circumcision in Abraham’s covenant, to enter the new and better covenant of Hebrews 8:6, 10-13?
• Are the baptism in the Holy Spirit and Fire, and receiving, being filled with, the Holy Spirit the same thing?
• If not, do I need both?
• What are the four supernatural works that the Bible teaches happens to us in water baptism?
• If I don’t have the peace of Jesus, if I don’t manifest the power gifts of the Spirit, could it be because I am missing the full understanding of the New Covenant and Covenant Baptism?
• What was John the Baptist talking about when he described the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Fire as threshing wheat and gathering the straw to be burned?
• Was John the Baptist talking about a real threshing floor in Luke 3:17?
• Why did God seek to kill Moses just days after meeting with him out of the burning bush?
• When Adam and Eve were cast out, why did God have to set an angel with a fiery sword at the gate of the garden? What does this have to do with my salvation?
Richard Yarbrough has taught these principles for over forty years. He has seen hundreds of people’s Christian walk reach new levels of power and glory when they acted on the teachings of Covenant Baptism. This teaching is not new. It is a better understanding of the doctrine of baptisms as taught in the first century church. Richard Yarbrough has scripture quotes on every page to guide you through the wonders that the Lord Jesus Christ is instilling in His Church. Like Luther’s protestant movement and the Pentecostal/ Charismatic Movement; Covenant Baptism will usher in a paradigm shift in the body of Christ. The Kingdom of God is at hand, within our grasp. We must be born of water and the Spirit to fully enter in to it!

Christ and Him Crucified

by Jon J. Cardwell

CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED IS THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST CONDENSED IN A SENTENCE

"For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." ~1 Corinthians 2:2

Because Eternal Truth is Relevant and Never Out of Style

CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED: Expounded Herein by Its Preeminence, Proposition, Power, Purpose, Provision, and Privilege; With an Exhortation in Its Priority

The book, CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED, answers some essential questions, such as:

  • Who is Jesus Christ?
  • Is Jesus Christ God?
  • What is the gospel according to the Bible?
  • Why did Jesus have to die?
  • What should we think of Jesus today?
  • Did Jesus suffer the wrath of God upon the cross?
  • What does it mean to be a born again Christian?
  • What are the Christian essentials?

THE TRUTH OF THE CRUCIFIED CHRIST is a supremely important and essential truth because it is a heavenly truth condescending unto fallen man from the throne of God. Not only is the truth of Christ crucified a supremely important and essential truth because of its heavenly revelation, but is also preeminent because of its divine work of redemption.

THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST should never be divorced from the work of Jesus Christ. What He has done flows from who He is; and who Christ is necessitates what He does. Jesus is not merely the Christ, but He is the Christ who was crucified. Sadly, too many churches, too many preachers of the gospel, and too many professing Christians are losing this central and essential truth.

American churches are standing for something other than, or something more (?!) than Christ, and Him crucified. My friends, this ought not so to be.

Halal Monk: A Christian on a Journey through Islam

by Jonas Yunus Atlas

To acquaint himself with the soul of Islam J.Y. Atlas had openhearted conversations with influential Muslim scholars and artists. From Jakarta to New York, this Christian theologian met with imams and Sufis, academics and feminists, punkers and poets. The result is a book full of novel insights that will help us to transcend today's cultural and religious impasses.

Attempts of interfaith dialogue often stay away from the more difficult issues and remain somewhat superficial. With his 'Halal Monk' journey, Atlas wanted to go further. He wanted to get to the root of our current tensions. To do so, he spoke with people like Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad, Abida Parveen, Imam Feisal Rauf, Amina Wadud, Kudsi Ergüner, Muhammad Abdel Haleem, Musdah Mulia, Ziauddin Sardar, Amir Sulaiman, Mona Siddiqui, Aki Nawaz, Peter Sanders, Cyrus McGoldrick, Abdulwahid Van Bommel and many others.

This book collects his most fascinating dialogues at the intersection of culture, society and religion. In between those conversations, some extra light is shed on key concepts of the Islamic tradition and their relevance for today's debates.

Topics as diverse as quranic exegesis, islamic mysticism and islamic feminism are all treated in a nuanced manner. Difficult subjects like islamic fundamentalism and jihad, aren't circumvented but placed within their context and clarified. Aspects of the islamic faith like sharia and ijtihad are explained and juxtaposed with the Christian tradition.

One Last Time: A Novel

by Jan Strnad

Grief counselor and skeptic Claire Devane finds her life turned upside down when the recently deceased begin to return from the hereafter to visit the living one last time. Secrets are revealed. Love and longing… betrayal, murder, guilt… the visitations bring them all out of the shadows and into the light. It's a strange new world, one that threatens to swallow her whole.

Imagine a world in which the recently deceased are able to visit one person... and only one person... "one last time" for a few minutes. They visit, not as a ghost, but as a real, substantial human being. They may visit with love in their hearts, or malice. They may visit to ask a question, or to give instruction, to apologize or to accuse.

If you were such a person, now deceased, who would you visit? Your children? But what if you have two and can only visit one--which would you visit? Who would your loved ones visit? What if they chose not to visit you, but someone else?

These are the questions explored in One Last Time through the experiences of Claire Devane and the clients she serves, while her own life is turned upside down by the new phenomenon.
