Adrift

by Nicholas Erik

200 years ago, the USS Nomad escaped Earth in search of a mythical lost colony.
100 years ago, it returned unmanned, its data stores corrupted.
Today, as humanity's last stronghold is destroyed, the Nomad goes back.

After two centuries of war with a mysterious enemy known as the Reclaimed, humanity's last stronghold crumbles. Fleeing their ruined capital, calamity strikes: the entire fleet is annihilated by the Reclaimed's destroyers. All except the USS Nomad, an scout class vessel crewed by a last minute assembly of cast-offs.

But after executing an FTL jump to escape its pursuers, the ancient vessel has problems of its own: its comms are down, one of its engines has sustained severe damage, and someone, in the midst of the escape, murdered the leader of the mission.

The surviving crew must find the killer while piloting the heavily damaged Nomad to this long lost world if humanity is to survive. But the truth about who's responsible for the failed escape - and the larger invasion - will set everyone aboard further adrift and unable to trust anyone at all...
